The town
Ebeltoft is one of the oldest Danish
market towns, which was granted its
municipal charter in the year of 1301.
However, Ebeltoft as a town was already
established in the middle of the 12th
century.
The meaning of the name Ebeltoft cannot
be verified, but it probably means Æble
Toft: Apple Yard.
The old Town Hall and square
The old town hall executes approximately
450 annual weddings.
The weddings are mostly executed on
saturdays from 11 a.m. and often attract a
large audiance.
In the summer:
The night watchmen start their "Inspection
round" and watchman's songs at 8, 9 and 10 p.m.
from The old Town Hall.
The square is occupied by craftsmen selling
their own high class art and craft.
Cheramics, silver juvelery etc.
